Also known by its nickname, St. Kate’s, the University currently enrolls roughly 3,900 students and offers degrees at the associate, baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels.

The Education Department at St. Kate's offers programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Early Childhood department offers an associate's degree, bachelor's degree leading to your initial Minnesota Early Childhood Education teaching license, and a certificate program for a Montessori credential. The Master's of Library and Information Science department offers a graduate program leading to your initial Minnesota School Library Media Specialist teaching license.

If you're interested in becoming a licensed Library Media Specialist for kindergarten-grade 12 students in Minnesota, St. Catherine University offers a supportive, hands-on program that prepares you for this meaningful role.

Through personal attention and real-world experiences, you’ll learn the foundations of librarianship and how to serve children and young adults in today’s schools. Courses emphasize equal access to technology, digital literacy and the developmental needs of students from early childhood through adolescence. You’ll also explore educational philosophy across elementary, middle and high school settings.

This licensure program is part of St. Kate’s Master of Library and Information Science — the only American Library Association-accredited program in Minnesota.
Upon completion, you'll be eligible to apply for the Minnesota K–12 Library Media Specialist license.

If you don’t already hold a Minnesota teaching license, you’ll complete additional coursework and student teaching as part of the program.
