Here's what to expect:

• Tuition: $588 per credit hour
• Total credits: 30–60 credits, depending on your previous coursework and chosen licensure area
• The exact number of credits you’ll need varies based on your background and the program requirements.
• There is no application fee.

Year one: Begin your journey by being admitted to the licensure program. Start your coursework and field experience, and meet with your faculty mentor to discuss your goals and learning plan.

Year two: Continue your coursework and field experience. Prepare for student teaching by submitting your student teaching and graduation applications. Meet with your faculty mentor to review your progress and discuss the student teaching term.

Teaching License Preparation: Complete a minimum of 12 weeks of student teaching with support from a cooperating teacher and a university supervisor. You’ll also complete a performance assessment and submit your teaching license application.

Year three: Finish the remaining coursework for your Master of Arts in Teaching degree. Augsburg’s graduate program focuses on licensure first, so you’ll be eligible for your Minnesota teaching license before completing the full degree.

Field experience is a key part of your journey to becoming a licensed teacher at Augsburg. 

You’ll spend time in K–12 classrooms, working directly with students and learning from experienced host teachers who mentor you as you grow into your role as an educator. With support from licensed teachers and university staff, you’ll gain real-world classroom experience and build the confidence and skills needed to lead your own classroom.

The Augsburg University Education Department is committed to preparing knowledgeable and responsive teachers who are ready to support all learners in a diverse and changing world. 

You’ll take courses that explore the root causes of educational inequities and learn how to address them through culturally relevant teaching. You’ll also learn how to create inclusive, accessible learning experiences for multilingual learners and students with disabilities.

Augsburg’s Education Department emphasizes strong mentoring throughout your coursework and clinical experiences. You’ll work with a dedicated education advisor to create a personalized learning plan, and connect with faculty mentors to reflect on your professional growth and personal goals.

During student teaching, you’ll receive one-on-one support from a master cooperating teacher and an experienced university faculty supervisor, while also participating in a coaching seminar to help you grow as a teacher.

Augsburg University works closely with Minnesota’s Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board to ensure its teacher preparation programs meet or exceed licensure requirements. 

The university also engages in ongoing assessment of program outcomes. Through strong partnerships with K–12 schools and districts, Augsburg provides you with rich, supportive clinical experiences as you prepare for a career in education.
