Program Info

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for working professionals, including those currently in K–12 settings. Its flexible hybrid evening schedule helps you balance your career and education. Small class sizes foster strong, professional mentorships with faculty. 

As a graduate student, you’ll work toward earning your initial Minnesota teaching license and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree. You’ll become a skilled, responsive teacher ready to support all learners in a diverse and changing world. Through coursework and field experiences in education foundations, curriculum, assessment and teaching strategies, you’ll focus on four key themes: relationships, reflection and inquiry, diversity and equity, and leadership.

Augsburg Partnership Grant: If you're a graduate student employed by an organization that participates in Augsburg’s partnership grant program, you may qualify for a tuition discount. Some metropolitan area school districts are included—check to see if your employer is eligible.

Endowed Scholarships: Each spring, you can apply for a variety of endowed scholarships offered specifically for Education students.

Grants for Future Educators: You may be eligible for several grants, including:

  • Grow Your Own Grants – In partnership with local K–12 schools
  • Student Teaching Grants
  • Minnesota Future Teacher Grants

Minnesota Indian Teacher Grant and Loan Program: If you're eligible and complete Augsburg’s teacher preparation program, you may qualify for this program by teaching in St. Paul or Minneapolis public schools.
