Year Three
You’ll enter this program in year three, after completing most—or all—of your general education courses. That means you’ll jump right into meaningful, hands-on coursework that’s directly connected to your future as a teacher.
From your very first semester, you’ll blend what you learn in class with real classroom experience. Through clinical placements, you'll work with real students in real schools—building skills, gaining confidence and seeing how everything you’re learning applies to the job.

Year Four
In year four, you'll keep building on your major coursework and take your final step toward graduation and licensure: student teaching. Throughout the program, learning is always connected to doing—so you’re not just earning a degree, you’re getting ready to thrive in today’s classrooms.

The best teachers learn by doing. That’s why hands-on experience is built into every semester. 

Starting as early as your first semester, you’ll step into local classrooms to observe and learn from experienced teachers. 

By the time your student teaching semester approaches, you'll have completed over 100 hours of fieldwork, taking on more responsibility through small-group and full-class instruction. Throughout it all, you’ll be supported by a mentor teacher and a faculty advisor who guide you every step of the way.

You’ll learn to support the diverse academic, social and emotional needs of students. 

Courses will focus on culturally responsive teaching and social justice, with projects that help you explore and address real-world inequities. 

Clinical placements give you hands-on experience with students from a wide range of backgrounds, preparing you to teach with inclusivity and equity in mind.

You’ll be supported by a strong mentoring and coaching system throughout your clinical experience, designed to help you reflect, grow and confidently step into your teaching career.

You’ll be paired with:

• A dedicated cooperating teacher who serves as your mentor and coach, providing hands-on feedback and guidance in the classroom.
• A university supervisor works closely with you both to support your progress, answer questions, and ensure you stay on track. They also serve as a connection to the Center for Student Success, helping you access additional resources as needed.
